Product Description

IEC releases new standard for self-balancing vehicles IEC 60335-2-114: 2018

In April 2018, IEC TC61 published the new standard IEC 60335-2-114 Safety requirements for self-balancing personal transport devices for use with batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes. The promulgation of this standard provides a complete electrical safety testing basis for self-balancing vehicles that have been on the market for a long time.

The main contents of the new standard are as follows:

Self-balancing Personal Transport Device, referred to as SPTD, includes a detachable power supply part and a functional part. The functional part should be class III and waterproof to at least IPX4.

Normal temperature rise and overload test.

Functional part anti-immersion test.

Test of SPTD braking ability and self-balancing function in the case of electronic circuit failure.

Lithium battery protection circuit test.

Mechanical strength test: drop test, vibration test, impact test.

The functional parts of the SPTD used in off-road applications must meet dust protection requirements of at least IP5X.

Software evaluation complies with Annex R.

The battery complies with IEC62133-1 and IEC62133-2.

The detachable power supply complies with IEC61558 and related part 2.

Testing and certification solutions include:

Electrical safety (UL 2272, UL 2580, UN 38.3, IEC 62133, IEC 60335-1, IEC 60335-2-114, AS/NZS 60335.1, AS/NZS 60335.2.201, etc.)

Electromagnetic compatibility (North American FCC, IC regulations, EU EMC and RED directives, etc.)

Structural and reliability testing

Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC)

Chemical testing (RoHS, REACH, WEEE, CA PROP65, etc.)

EN71
