Product Description

Taiwan VSCC Certified Lamps VSTD Testing Standards

Taiwan offers many opportunities for car companies. Since 2014, new car registrations have steadily increased, and despite the pandemic, 2020 has seen record new car registrations.

To obtain VSCC certification in Taiwan, testing in accordance with the relevant Taiwan Vehicle Safety Test Guidelines (VSTD) must also be submitted as part of the documentation submitted for testing and approval.

The testing standards are issued by the Taiwan Ministry of Transportation (MoTC), which authorizes the Vehicle Safety Certification Center (VSCC) to test and approve vehicles and components for the Taiwan market. These tests must be conducted in a test laboratory approved by the MoTC or an approved technical service organization with its own test laboratory.

Car Lamps
Comparability

Although the Vehicle Safety Test Guidelines are largely based on international ECE regulations, testing in accordance with ECE is not recognized by the VSCC. Testing must be performed in accordance with VSTD regulations.

Car lamps can be complex and must meet several criteria to be considered for testing. There are photometric requirements, installation considerations (VSTD 03 The Installation of Lighting and Light-signaling Devices) and lamp functionality to consider:

VSTD 31 Turn Signal Lamps

VSTD 31 specifically addresses the differences between turn signals mounted on the front or rear of the vehicle and the tests required. Turn signals perform a direction-indicating function when engaged. The area to be illuminated by the turn signal lamp, the acceptable intensity, the orientation of the lamp relative to the axis of the vehicle and the behavior of the turn signal lamp when multiple lamps located in the turn signal lamp are illuminated in sequence are all taken into account.

VSTD 32 Fog Lamps

VSTD 32 defines what defines fog lamps and specifies testing requirements. For example, unlike turn signal lamps, they are tested for durability with continuous output. This means that only slight visual deviations will occur and no deformities or color changes will occur. In addition, they are tested for contamination and subjected to continuous loads.

VSTD 33 Reversing Spotlights

VSTD 33 defines the permissible illuminated area per square meter, the test intervals and the lower and upper limits of the measured light values to be met. In contrast to fog lamps, reversing lamps do not require continuous load testing - reversing lamps are not suitable for long-term continuous use.

Headlights
VSTD 34 Headlights

VSTD 34 defines the test requirements and permissible values for headlights. Headlights cover a large area and ensure vehicle safety. Every square meter of illuminated area must be checked and the position and alignment of the light beam must be tested. The test requirements and permissible values are defined in VSTD 34.

VSTD 35 Taillights

VSTD 35 describes taillights, which must also produce a uniform light pattern while keeping the light intensity within the specified range. In addition, the taillights must be red and they must be installed in the vehicle in such a way that they cannot be manipulated or installed elsewhere.

VSTD 37 Brake lights

VSTD 37 also provides a definition for brake lights and specifies the requirements to be met: they should have a uniform light pattern, be installed at a specified angle, illuminate only a specified area and should be applied to the VSCC together with a product-specific description.
