US GCC Certification

Product Description

What products need to apply for US GCC certification? How much does US GCC certification cost?

1. General Certificate of Conformity(GCC)

Certain general use products (i.e., products for which consumer product safety rules apply) must demonstrate compliance with those applicable rules in a written General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) based on testing or a reasonable testing procedure. Below this page, CPSC provides two examples of GCCs for fictitious products showing sample layouts of the required elements of a GCC; one for adult apparel and one for a mattress. These examples are illustrative and do not capture all consumer product safety rules that may apply to consumer products. The GCC and supporting test reports must be in English.

2. Information Required for US GCC Certification:

Identification of the Products Covered by This Certificate:

Describe the products covered by this certificate in such detail that they match each product covered by the certificate and no other products.

Citation of each consumer product safety regulation under which this product is certified:

The certificate must separately identify each consumer product safety rule administered by the European Commission that applies to the product.

Identification of the Importer or Domestic Manufacturer Certifying that the Product Conforms to the Regulations:

Provide the name, complete mailing address, and telephone number of the importer or U.S. domestic manufacturer of the certified product.

Contact information for the individual who will maintain records of test results:

Provide the name, complete mailing address, email address, and telephone number of the person who will maintain records of testing in support of certification.

Date and location where this product was manufactured:

For the date the product was manufactured, provide at least the month and year. For the location of manufacture, provide at least the city (or administrative region) and country where the product was manufactured or ultimately assembled. If the same manufacturer operates multiple facilities in the same city, provide the street address of the facility.

Provide the date and location where the product was tested for compliance with the above consumer product safety rules:

Provide the location where the testing was performed and the date of the test or test report on which the certification was based.

Identification of the third-party laboratory on which the certification was based:

Generally, for GCCs, this section should be marked "N/A" because third-party laboratory testing is not a requirement for non-children's products. (It is only a requirement for children's products and must be included in the CPC.) However, if the certification body voluntarily uses the test results of a third-party laboratory as the basis for issuing a GCC, the certification body is required by law to provide the name, complete mailing address, and telephone number of the third-party laboratory.

Rules requiring a General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) - General Use/Non-Children's Products

Manufacturers and importers of general use products (i.e., non-children's products) to which consumer product safety rules apply must certify in a General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) that their products comply with all applicable rules. Manufacturers or importers of such products must provide their GCC with test records or reasonable testing procedures for each product.
