The Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information (SDPPI) issued an important announcement on (March 21, 2024) regarding the implementation details of the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) head limit for mobile phones and tablets. This announcement is based on the Ministerial Decree No. 177/2024 (KEPMEN KOMINFO NO.177 TAHUN 2024) to stipulate SAR limits for mobile phone and tablet products. The highlights of the decision include:
1. SAR limits are imposed on mobile phone and tablet devices;
Scope of application: Applicable to mobile phone and tablet telecommunication devices manufactured, assembled, imported, traded and/or used in Indonesia.
Device definition: Mobile phones and tablet devices are defined as telecommunications devices that are less than 20 cm from the body and have a radiated emission power greater than 20 mW;
Implementation schedule: SAR limits for the head will be implemented on April 1, 2024; SAR limits for the torso/limbs will be implemented on August 1, 2024;
2. Certificate applications for mobile phones and tablet devices after the effective date must include a SAR test report;
3. SAR tests must be conducted in local laboratories. Currently, only the SDPPI laboratory BBPPT can support SAR testing
