4.1 Location and declaration of quantity information

4.1.1 The quantitative data and the unit corresponding to the magnitude chosen according to the characteristics of the product in question, must be located on the main exhibition surface, and must be free of any information that prevents its reading. The statement of the drained mass, where appropriate, should go next to the declaration of net content (see the following figures as an example).

4.1.2 To determine the unit corresponding to the magnitude, according to the characteristics of the product in question, go to section 4.4, table 3.

4.1.3 The quantitative data and the unit of measurement must have at least the size that is established according to the following:

i) Based on the main display surface

In the case of the products that express their quantity by numeric account or length, they must indicate it in the corresponding size according to table 1, the main exhibition surface is determined according to 4.3.
ii) Based on the magnitude of the net content
In the case of products that express their quantity in mass or volume metrological magnitudes, they can indicate it in the corresponding size according to table 2.
The packagers of products of subsection ii) may choose to use the indications in i), even in the case of products that express their size in mass or volume, as long as they comply with the provisions for this item and use it permanently.

In containers that, due to their characteristics, more than one of their faces fall within the definition of the main exhibition surface, the content, net content and / or drained mass may be displayed in two or more of them.

4.1.4 To the legends CONTENT, NET CONTENT or its abbreviations CONT., CONT. NET. and CONT. NETO does not apply the specifications of tables 1 and 2 and can be written with uppercase and / or lowercase letters. They must go next to the quantitative data and the unit corresponding to the chosen magnitude according to the characteristics of the product in question, according to table 3 (section 4.4). In the event that the package contains accessories or complementary products, the legend CONTENT, NET CONTENT or its abbreviations must include, in addition to the previously established, data that allow the identification of these products, regardless of their size or location.

In products that include promotions, offers or free samples, the declaration of content or net content must correspond to the amount of product for which the consumer pays or declares the content or total net content.

4.2 For products that are marketed in multiple or collective containers:

a) The declaration of quantity can be expressed indistinctly by numerical account for the containers it contains or by net content, except when the content or net content is obvious, the location and size of the letter used being not restrictive.

b) For these cases, the individual packages must contain the quantity declaration of the quantitative data according to this Standard. In the case that the individual packages do not contain the quantity declaration, this must be declared in the multiple or collective container, the location and size of the letter used being not restrictive.

4.3 Calculation of the main display surface

The main display surface must be expressed in cm 2 and calculated, as indicated in the following sections:

For rectangular areas the height is multiplied by the width:
For triangular surfaces the height is multiplied by the width and it is divided between two:
c) For surfaces of cylindrical containers and bottles, it is considered 40% of the result of multiplying the height of the container, excluding edges, necks and shoulders, by the perimeter of the largest circumference:

d) For circular surfaces, multiply 3.1416 by the square of the radius:

For polygonal surfaces the calculation of the surface of the geometric figure must be considered:

4.3.1 This calculation of the main display surface is the basis for determining the minimum height of the quantitative data of the quantity declaration and the corresponding unit of magnitude according to table 1.

4.3.2 At the request of the interested party in those packages that, due to their characteristics, it is confusing to identify the main exhibition surface, the General Norms Directorate will determine what it should be and what its dimensions should be.

4.4 Units to be used

The unit of measure or its submultiples, as well as the corresponding symbology, is applied according to the physical state of the product and the quantity contained in the container, as established in table 3.

4.4.1 When the quantity contained in the package is less than the base unit of measure, the submultiple of this unit and the corresponding symbol must be used.

4.4.2 When the quantity contained in the container is equal to or greater than the base unit of measure, that unit and the corresponding symbol must be used.

4.4.3 In cases where the quantity contained in the package is greater than one, but does not correspond to whole quantities, it should be indicated as follows:

a) Units

b) Decimal symbol according to NOM-008-SCFI (see 2 References).

c) Corresponding fraction using the smallest possible number of digits and without exceeding the thousandths of a unit level

d) Symbol of the corresponding unit.

4.4.4 Cases not contemplated

When the use of units of measurement different from those established in Table 3 is required, authorization must be obtained from the General Directorate of Standards of the Ministry of Economy.
