Qi/WPC Certification, Why does wireless charging need Qi certification?
Qi is pronounced "chee" and its name comes from an Asian philosophy meaning "key energy", an invisible energy. After Apple joined the WPC Wireless Charging Alliance, wireless charging has become more and more popular, and QI certification has become more and more recognized.
Qi is a wireless charging standard launched by WPC (Wireless Power Consortium), the world's first standardization organization to promote wireless charging technology. It has two major characteristics: portability and versatility.
QI is an open universal standard that can be used with any Qi device, so consumers do not need to use separate chargers, cables and adapters, and can safely and easily perform wireless charging at home, offices, stations, hotels and other places. Products using Qi technology must undergo rigorous testing to ensure security, interoperability and energy efficiency. Only products that pass these independent lab tests can use the Qi logo and are considered Qi certified.
Products using the Qi standard must undergo rigorous testing to ensure their security, interoperability and energy efficiency. Only products that have passed independent laboratory testing can use the Qi logo and are considered "Qi Certified" products.
Why do I need Qi certification?
1. Products that have not been tested and certified have potential safety hazards and may generate heat, burn the human body, cause fire, etc.
2. It is difficult to sell in European or American retailers. Now retailers are aware of the risks and trust certified products.
3. WPC will conduct random inspections. If there is no certification and the certification mark is stamped, corresponding penalties will be imposed if caught by WPC.
4. After Qi certification, you can put a logo on it, and the certificate can be found on the WPC official website, which will bring brand effect.
Qi certification steps
1. Join WPC and become a member (customer operation)
2. Submit an application for testing requirements
3. The laboratory accepts applications
4. Laboratory compliance testing
5. Interoperability test application
6. Interoperability testing
7. Issue QI certificate
8. Register products in WPC (customer operation)
Qi certification application information
1. For 5 samples, the charging point of each sample needs to be marked.
2. If there are test auxiliary equipment, at least 3 sets need to be provided
3. Product instruction manual and operating instructions
4. Self-declaration form
5. Pre-test data
Qi Certification Test Project
1. Compliance testing
2. Interoperability testing
Qi certification registration notes
1. It is a similar product (no testing required)
It means that the product that needs to be certified is the same product that has passed Qi certification before.
For example:
--Changed product color
--Changed brand name
2. Products containing registered subsystems (no testing required)
Subsystem refers to a transmitter product with complete functions, including coil, protective layer/shielding, and control system assembled together. Ready to operate and test without any additional assembly or assembly.
For example: the charging module installed on the table is Qi certified and embedded in the table, and the table can be registered directly
Who can apply for QI certification
1. Only WPC members are allowed (once the company withdraws from WPC, the products will also be deleted from the QI certified product library)
2. Only companies that have signed the QI mark license agreement (the QI mark is a registered trademark)
Qi certification covers product range
Covering all electronic products with wireless charging functions, both the transmitter and receiver require certification.
Qi certification type
1) Qi-BPP certification:
The product supports power below 5W, uses Qi protocol, and must pass BPP certification.
2) Qi-EPP certification:
The product supports power above 5W, uses Qi protocol, and must be EPP certified.
3) Qi-PPDE certification:
The product supports power above 5W, uses Samsung's private protocol PPDE, and must pass BPP certification + PPDE testing (implemented from July 1, 2019).
3.2 Qi certified product scope
1) By coil type:
Single coil: A11, A11a;
Multi-coil: A28;
2) According to common products
Charger products;
Mobile power products;
Embedded equipment (the product contains TX transmitting function).
* Qi wireless charging certification cycle
1) Certification cycle: 20 working days;
2) Certification samples: 5 pieces;
Note: This certification cycle does not include sample rectification time.
